Kevin Dakan recently purchased Blitz Hull #122 from Beth & Scott Ward. The boat will be relocated from the Chesapeake Bay to Narragansett Bay later this summer. Kevin will keep the boat at Apponaug Harbor Marina and will be an active racer.

The class database is currently down for maintenance. As soon as the database is back up, it will be updated with Kevin's information.

Welcome Kevin to the Southern New England J/30 Fleet!

Bill, Thanks much for the warm welcome.

I've been working out logistics getting Blitz up here had a quick question for local fleet. Does anybody have an trailer they'd be willing to lend me? I have access to vehicle that could handle the boat, but would love to get her sooner then later. As much as the delivery sounds like a lovely vacation, it might just be easier to go get her, bring her up and have her here.

Thanks in advance and looking foward to meeting everyone on the course!

Kevin

Kevin,

John McArthur of Smiles has a trailer that is performing delivery duty for a few boats going to the NAs. John lives in CT so maybe you could work something out.

Hello all,

Pleased to announce a new name for Blitz next season. New name to be Jester. Full ceremonies expected! Have to rename her right!

I plan on EGYC Wed. night series as well as any some good weekend stuff. Wrapping up this seasons with the Sail Newport Sail for Hope.

Kevin - I've updated the boat name in the class database and your forum profile. How about sailing the Bud Humphrey memorial race around Prudence Island this Sunday? So far we have Rhapsody, Mmmmm, sonskyn, and Falcon representing J/30s for this race. A very low-key non-spinnaker event.

I am crewing a J29 for American Yacht Club Fall Series this weekend, otherwise, would loved to have participated.

Welcome Kevin,

Blitz is a great boat. Great new name also. Are you familiar with the Jester race that originates in England and sails to the United States in boats 20', and under, with no engines allowed. We have one racer (family friend) scheduled to visit us as they (hopefully) make it to finish in Newport next year.
Look forward to seeing everyone this weekend as we have entered Good News in the Bud Humphrey race.

Good to see Blitz out on the water for the Sail for Hope. Unfortunately, the winds died half way around the race course and most every class was scored Time Limit Expired.

It was frustrating for Rhapsody as we were first in our class to make it to the windward mark around Conanicut Island. The wind died to almost nothing just before we got there and we watched as boats were closing distance with the tidal currents. Our light air performance simply sucked. We went from the 1st boat in the class to the back of the pack as other boats drift by downwind. I definitely could have done better with a 0.5oz spinnaker, and will look for one this winter.

Kevin had a great hail on the radio as a bunch of boats were calling in to drop out of the race. His response was something like "Race Committee, this is Blitz. Our performance may be the pits, but we don't say quits. We're still racing!".

Kevin - I saw you pull in to Newport for the party, but I took Rhapsody back to the Navy Base and drove to Newport Shipyard. By the time I got there the party was in full swing and wasn't able to find you. Sorry to have missed the Blitz crew.

Great day on the water! Yes, very frustrating to say the least... from a solid start, to buried on the right side, to catching up to the stalled fleet and nearly sneaking by, to getting hung up on a lobster pot to DFL with no breaks. Tough first day of racing for us.

However, it was fun to duel it out at Beavertail. At least we got a little boat to boat and see what we need to work on. And yes, my crew got a little punchy on the radio... we had a ton of fun non-the-less. The handle of rum may have helped. Sorry we missed you at the party, we stopped by for a little bit and I was asking around for you. We had to leave to take one of the crew out for a bachelor party, I'm sure you understand! Next time for sure.
