The Annapolis NOOD regatta held 29 April - 1 May 2011 drew 14 J/30s for a one design start. Congratulations to Bob Rutsch and the Bebop crew for a win that was determined at the last race. Better Mousetrap was very close behind in the series finish. Official Results are posted below.

Shifty and puffy Friday 12-16 with gusts to 20; 11-14 Saturday with gusts subsiding later in the day; light and variable 4-6 to start Sunday, then 6-8 for the finale. Eight races with over 50 total miles, no throwouts. Ebb current all day every day, often creating a visible wake on the anchored RC boat and marks.
Four classes on our circle (6 Melges 24, 28 J/105, 29 J/80, 14 J/30), long courses and plenty general recalls for the two large classes meant we got in after 6 PM Friday and Saturday. So, not quite the usual party scene, though we did our best to enjoy it.
Six different boats won at least one race. Mousie had a two-point lead at the end of Friday, with Bebop leading 90 by 1 and Insatiable by 2 on Saturday night. Given the weather forecast it was reasonable to think there would be only one race Sunday. Mousie had the lead most of the race until the breeze died and current took hold on the final run. The fleet spread out across the Bay in search of breeze or current relief. Mousie hung on for 2nd with Kahuna winning from the left corner and Bump third from the right. We miscalculated the finish order, thinking we were tied with 90 when they actually had a one-point lead as we waited for the southerly to fill. We started the last race with ten minutes to go on the time limit. Unfortunately 90 was called OCS and restarted, while Mousie won wire to wire. We played it conservatively for second, not realizing that at one point there was one boat between us that would’ve tied it up.
The racing was tight throughout, serving as a great tune up for the NA’s in September. Thanks to 90 for coming all the way from Hampton. Happy to see Valhalla and Cannonball out, Leap Frog and Avenger up from Herrington Harbour, plus a full compliment of the Annapolis stalwarts.
