For whatever reason we have been having to do a lot of reaching lately under spinnaker and a strut is looking more and more desireable to keep my stanchions alive.

on judicious we use a jockey pole which clips on to a ring on the mast and makes it a lot easier to winch back when close reaching and saves the stanchions.
