Hi folks, I've decided to get the Tacktick T909 compass transducer and I'm wondering where in the boat many of you have mounted it. I understand it needs to be away from ferrous metal and should be on the center line of the boat. I also understand the more the compass is protected from pitch and yaw the more accurate the reading.

Unfortunately the mast and a bunch of electrically charged wires that run through it would likely be too close to the ideal mounting position above the doorway in the head. So I'm thinking underneath the V-berth might be the next logical spot.

I'm sure some of you have this instrument mounted. I'd be curious where you mounted it and how it is performing.

I mounded my raymarine compass transducer on the bulkhead in the head at water level, that's what raymarine suggested when I contacted the tech guys. I have not noticed any interference from the wires in the mast, but I only have the three lights on my mast and nothing else. I would think if you have shielded wires in the mast it would cut down on any interference.

I did the same as Patrick - no problems yet.

There isn't any power running up my mast unless the VHF is transmitting, or if I have my steaming or deck light on.

When sailing at night, none of this is typically going on so I wouldn't have seen a problem if there was one, but I will try flipping the lights on and off and watching the heading on our next overnight race next month.

Same with my Raymarine Autohelm compass. No problems at all on the bulkhead behind the mast at waterline level.

Thanks for the replies folks. I will mount it on the bulkhead then.
