today installed second spin halyard ... no big deal. a. exit plate is K-10960SC from RigRite ~$20 delivered. b. three 1/4 in. holes, dremel cutout with an chinese industrial disk [dremel disks are crap] and then rough edges dremel ground smooth.
c. snaked from box to opening with opening facing down, practically fell out of hole.
d. then plate attached with four #10s tapped corners after halyard was fed through.
Note: Green will be main Spin Halyard, blue tracer main jib halyard because it is a better angle for the roller furling. Also note how well color coordinated this is ... by accident [the green tracer was on discount at WM] ... If we think we are going to peel will use the lower one as the main spin H so we can go outside with the upper one.
This is the 4 screw box that replaced the 12 screw box sometime in 1985 and apparently on all new masts since 1985.

So OK ... update.
so haven't had a chance to use second spin halyard for a peel to date .
But someone on my crew last weekend managed to untie the hank of line to the second spin halyard thinking it might be useful to have ALL the lines free and ready to use and out of the way in the companionway. [ not just the ones we needed to use ... this is like the having the second jib halyard loose and ready to go when you have not even thought of hot changing jibs for the rest of the month. ]
which was ok ... but then someone let the snap shackle loose on the second spin halyard ... and then someone hauled the snap shackle end of the second spin halyard up the mast ...
which was ok ... But then no one told the skipper that this happened.
and had the skipper looking for the white with blue tracer line for 10 minutes tonight before i realized that it was sitting snug up the mast.
fortunately it did not jam the top spin halyard. yet.

So OK UPDATE 2. Just so you guys don't think I know everything right off ... as I often say I have forgotton more stuff than most people will ever know. Perhaps it was stuff that no one really would want to know. ...
So today i sent the new kid up the mast ... his first time ... duh... MS in mechanical engineering ... and i tacked the head cam on so I could see what he saw up there. [will look at that video later.]
the white with blue tracer was NOT my second spin halyard but holding up the genny on the harken roller. so my crew had not blown the shackle end of the second spin halyard after all ... good crew is hard to find ... I'll keep these at least for now.
and the second spin halyard was just hanked just where it was supposed to be on the mast.
I like the idea of sending crew up the mast with a headcam ... but I now want to find one of those with wifi that will tie into the cell phone so I can see what they are seeing real time. and then add 2 way audio.

Nicely done Capt. Vic! Nicely done.
I'm onboard with finding an OEM designer/builder of the J/30 Connected ActionCam device. However, it should have a 4G LTE chipset (for self-contained connectivity) and a small HTTP app running that allows you to configure Ustream account credentials so that you can just ustream the feed right to your phone and the web. It should also enable you to connect to a Twitter account that we can follow so that we'll be notified when you send your guy up the rig and we can all watch!
J/30 Rig Cinema!
Cheers, Jeff
