So ok ... I am going to install second spin Halyard ... just because we are using jenny sock/roller furling and using the spin halyard to hoist it. But that gives us 2X the potential for crew to blow the Spin Halyard ... as we generally hoist or drop the sock underway. { I know we don't HAVE to hoist and drop underway ... but that is the macho thing to do ... and J30 sailors are supposed to be macho and have everything wraped up when we dock in the slip or pull up the mooring pennant. ]
and i don't often have crew on board able to float up to retrieve.
... so here is a photo of the exit plate we use on the Kenyon mast. it is [ Stainless Steel Exit Plate: K-10960 ]
The question is as we have two of these exit plates on each side of the mast now ... where would a normal sailor expect to find the second spin halyard ... port or starboard?
and how far away from the other two plates should I cut the 2.75 x .75 in. hole?

So OK since no one ventured an opinon on which side the second spin halyard should exit the mast I decided to do the same side as the 1st spin halyard.
this is what that exit plate looks like inside ... $18 plus shipping .
You can order the exit plates from Rig Rite. Go to the menu at the top of the forum, mouse over "Market", then click on "Equipment Suppliers". You'll find a page with all the links to suppliers you'll want, plus more.
