So at my yacht club we are looking at putting together a fleet of small boats that people can check out and go sailing in. They are owned by the club and any member should be able to charter the boat for a couple of hours - provided they pass a competency test. Does anyone's yacht club have a similar program? How is it organized and what are the costs?
Any help would be great.
Thanks DB

David, At Coasters Harbor we have a fleet of Rhodes 19s and Shields that are owned by the Navy and supported by the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) committee. We give training with both ground school and on the water instruction. People then take a written and practical sailing test and are issued qualification cards they show when they want to rent boats. Look on the CHNYC web site and on the left menu click on sail training and the submenus. We post training material there. Our costs are listed in the marina brochure available at that link.

the Manhattan sailing club at North Cove in Lower Manhattan has a similar program. They rent out j-24's for a really low price and you get to sail right by Lady Liberty.. http://www.myc.org/check it out... sorry to see you go, David..
