Last day of the season for Vee Jay in Newport. If you get down to Naples this winter look us up ... always looking for crew for a spin run.
OK for you guys wondering what Newport sailing is like ... Vee Jay 2 hangs in Newport, but is on the hard at Pirate Cove in Portsmouth RI ... which probably launched more J30s than any other J30 dealer.
Pirate Cove can be reached through Narragansett Bay around the north end of Aquidneck Is. and that is a shorter and more sheltered route ... or by going "outside" around the south end of Newport, which we had to do this week because they are using stimulus money to rebuild a bridge and we couldn't clear the temporary route under a low span on that Tiverton Bridge.
Anyway it was ~22 nm with an average speed of 6.1. one tack from tight haul port to tight haul stb. and we overshot G1 on Sakonnet River so the boys could do a spin run against the tide going north.
