What a great time this weekend. The winds (and current) were perfect!

Anyone agree?

Congrats to White Boat and crew!

Dave

Annapolis may soon overcome it's reputation for light air. Congrats to David McConaughy and Hampton's 'White Boat' now a two time champ and runner-up Blue Meanie. They both seemed to minimize mistakes in the shifty winds of Friday, current Saturday and that final shift Sunday.

I knew Scott, Dave, Dennis and Bonnie can make a J/30 go fast. But it appears they left it up to the young ladies of Rafiki to steer, trim and handle the bow. When they won the first race and had the overall lead at the end of the first day it shocked most of the fleet. After a couple tough races Saturday, they bounced back Sunday with a 6-2 for a daily third and a podium finish.

Umm... yes, I did indeed have quite a bit of fun. It was great sailing with the girls.

Thanks much to Bonnie Schloss for the boat, Bob Putnam for arranging housing for several of us, David Erwin (or was it actually Scot?) for this crazy idea, and the girls of course for putting up with this auld pharts bad jokes.

In case you didn't know, some of the Rafiki crew are daughters of Nick Hayes, who published Saving Sailing. It was this book that inspired us to do the Rafiki project. Good reading about choices, Families, Time Commitments, and How We Can Create a Better Future.

I would like to hear from other teams about the racing experiences! White Boat, Blue Meanie, Big Kahuna and others.

This was Crusader's 3rd J/30 NACS. The crew of Crusader had a great time sailing in the Cheasapeake Bay despite the obstacle course of debris and the shifty winds. The race and organizing comittees were solid and the competition was fierce. It was great racing against the Annapolis J/30 fleet. Trailering the 415 miles each way was definetly worth the great experience we had. Looking forward to our next J/30 North AMericans.
