Scheduling is underway on the Chesapeake Bay. The Fleet Captain asked me to list dates with comments and questions.

This year GIYS/SCC Spring attracted nine boats while the next day, MRSA R2 Spring Classic, had just five. Should we keep the first and drop the second? Do people prefer Leukemia Cup, Ted Osius Memorial, both, or neither? Screwpile has not generated enough interest for several years may be eliminated.

If not in 2012, maybe 2013 would we like to try the 123 NM Hampton YC Down the Bay Race? This starts the Friday before Memorial Day weekend and is followed the next Friday by three days of Southern Bay Race Week. The NA's will not return to the Bay for several years so we might want to endorse this or another event as a regional championship.

These dates are tentative and subject to change between now and January 2012. Fall Oxford and Hammond return for 2012. Classes for the weekends of Ted Osius, AYC Annual & Fall Series are not firm at this time so our day is not set.

The 2012 schedule listed below was submitted to CBYRA December 10, 2011.

It keeps both the spring events at Gibson Island YS-Magothy River SA. We wanted to give this weekend a second year, encourage class members to attend the party, and hope that crew logistics improve as we gain experience about the venue.

It also retains the Leukemia Cup which returned to our schedule last year for the first time since 2003. There are many charitable and social opportunities involved throughout the weekend. We felt this event needed another chance to generate interest, not to mention wind.

Fall Oxford and Hammond Memorial return after being off the schedule last year when they conflicted with the NAs.

One minor issue related to CBYRA High Point has been resolved. Each day of racing completed that achieves the minimum distance (4 NM), speed (2.0 knots) and participation (3 boats) will count as one event toward High Point. This solves the inconsistency last year when MRSA's one day/two races counted for two events, while Fall Series' two days/five races counted for one.
