I have been told that my exhust tube is damaged (dry rot) and needs to be replaced. I have been quoted a price of $930. Cost includes 7 hours of labor + $300 for the exhaust hose.

This seems excessive to me, will it really take 7 hours to replace an exhaust hose, and does the hose really cost $300?

Has anyone else replaced their exhaust ose recently?

I do not know about cost but i would talk to an exhaust shop for the pipe. When i rebuilt the engine the line came on and off in about 15 minutes each. You probable will need a exhaust manafold gasket as it is really stiff and was easier to remove the manafold to slide it off. Greg

are you just talking about the rubber hose from the muffler to the thru hull?

That sounds like a rip off. I replaced the exhaust hose on Rhapsody when I rebuilt the Yanmar in 2007. The replacement hose was Trident Flex Marine Wet Exhaust Water Hose. The size was 1.75" inside diameter by 23" long. Your size may vary so measure what you have. I also replaced the hose clamps. By AYBC standards, you need to double clamp both ends. The hose is ~ $10 per foot from Defender.

Depending on what model Yanmar you have, you may have a 90 degree mixing elbow or 180 degree mixing elbow for the pipe out of the exhaust manifold. You can disassemble it and bring it to the parts supplier for a replacement if needed. Plan on getting gaskets and possible new fasteners, as you will probably destroy the old ones getting them off.

Thanks, I have a 2GM Yanmar, next time I am down to the boat I'll take a look to see what the set-up is, but it sure seems that this job should be way less expensive than $930.
