I put a post in this old J/30 Class Business thread discussing the potential for migrating to a new forum. There are some sample postings made in the new forum, and I've created some threads with the reason for a new forum and some user polls. Please take the time to look at the new forum and answer the polls. You'll need to register to post and answer the polls on the new forum. I've added some links to make navigation easy to do this. Registration is straight forward. On any screen in the new forum, click on a link near the upper right of the screen that says "Register". You'll be directed to a screen where you select your user name, and password. You'll also have to enter a valid email address and type in the characters from the CAPTCHA screen - both of these are to weed out the spambots. Once you submit this, you'll get an email from webmaster@j30.us with a link to click on to validate your registration. The new old forum is here! The forum has been upgraded to what you see here. It's UBB.threads 7.4.2 (latest version). It has all the features available on the test forum I setup, but allowed us to keep all the old forum postings and registrations without loosing anything. I'll be updating the forum styles and configuring the look and feel. You can also customize settings for yourself. I'll also move the J/30 Marketplace to a similar forum on this board and update all the website links so it will be transparent to everyone. Please bear with us the next week or so while the updates are tweaked. Also - report any problems you have as a reply to this post so I can announce any fixes or workarounds for everyone.

Ok - we now have the "New Forum" How'd you like to see some really old stuff? I found the forum that was active in the 1999 - 2000 time frame. You can see it at The Old Forum Archive Link. If you browse there, don't click on the " ISAF Sailing Forums" link because it is no longer there. Just navigate around with " J/30 Class Forum" at the top of the old forum pages as the upper level to navigate around.

When you log in now, your user profiles may have been updated to show: - An Avatar - If you don't like the picture upload or link to another!
- For J/30 owners or former owners
- Your Boat Name - annotated with (Sold it) if a former owner
- Hull #
- Sail #
- Updated email address in the profile if there was a more current one
- Coming soon - For J/30 owners a link only visible to you that allows you to update your J/30 class record
I went through the all the login names for the forum and did some cleanup. Most people will find this cleanup transparent to them. Some had multiple accounts and I sent emails to people asking if they wanted them merged. For everyone who logs into the forum, please select "MyStuff", "Preferences" from the top menu and verify/update your profile information. You can also select things like being notified when a Private Mail (PM) arrives on the board via the "MyStuff", "Preferences" menu. You can click on a person's username in a posting or search the "Userlist" on the menu to get their profile information.

View your J/30 Class RecordA new feature has been incorporated into the forum. J/30 owners will be able to see a link to their record in the J/30 Class database. This is accessible when you are logged into the forum. - On the menu select User List
- Search for your login name
- Click on your name and the profile opens
- The field labeled "J/30 Record" has a link next to it
- Click on the link
- Your record in the class database opens in a new window
You can update your information their anytime. Note that the only people who can see your detailed record are you and the forum administrators. The link does not show up when you are viewing another person's profile. Please send me an email if you don't have a link, or if you find the link is to the wrong record.

Better visibility of Users & Boats! The list of users has been updated so now when you select User List from the menu, you see the Boat Name and Hull number associated with the individual user names. You have to be logged in to view the list. Where we know a registered user owned a J/30 but we don't know which one, has been annotated. Users who either currently own, or once owned a J/30 should have the appropriate boat information appear. Let me know if you see any errors or updates that are required.

Blasting this out to notify everyone if they care about the time displayed on their posts, the new forum software handles user settings differently. You must update the time zone in your profile (e.g. you must be logged into the forum to access your profile). The new software defaulted to UTC timezone 00:00. Making Forum Posts Displayed With Your Local TimeI received an email from someone who asked about how to make forum posts reflect times appropriate for where they lived. The server we run the forum on is located in the America - New York US time zone, so all times will be set relative to that. To adjust the time settings for your location, do the following: - Click "My Stuff" on the top menu and a drop-down appears.
- Click "Preferences" and a screen with various option settings appears.
- Scroll down and find the field labeled
Your Timezone - Click the dropdown and select the desired timezone (e.g. UTC-05:00 - America/New_York xx:xx AM)
- Scroll down and click the "Submit" button.
The times should automatically be adjusted for Daylight Savings shifts. That can cause problems with time being off an hour for some locations, so you may need to manually adjust the offset when the clocks change.
