Was getting HiJinx ready for a summer of racing and noticed something odd about the engine mounts that I had installed a couple of years back.

The rear mounts seem normal: two retaining/levelling nuts on a bolt that is mounted in a rubber foot held in place by a casting that is bolted to the engine stringers.

The front mounts appear to be the same, but are actually in two parts. The "bolt" isn't broken, but has an upper section bolted to the engine and a lower section mounted to the boat. The upper "bolt" and lower "bolt" aren't one piece and if I slightly "jack-up" the front of the engine, I can separate the two parts.

In other words: only the rear mounts are actually bolted to the boat.

Is this normal?

I sounds by the description as if the rubber on the front mounts has parted. Can you provide a picture on what your mounts look like?

Edit: if this is your mount, what you describe sounds like the rubber isolator has parted.

Will snap a pic tonight. Mine are different design, but same basic thing.

Am assuming that all four of yours are the same and installed the same way?

Thanks Bill, here's a pic of my mount. The arrow points at the place where I can separate the mount in to two pieces by jacking up the engine. I didn't expect this and am thinking that its not the way it should be....

Corey - I can't tell from the picture if the stud is actually sheared off, or it is just adjusted at that height to level the engine. The stud should be one piece firmly embedded in the rubber. It should hold the engine on the rubber mount so that all vibration and motion in all directions is attenuated by the rubber and transferred to the boat.

and that's what I expected as well. Will get them out to see if they've sheared or if my mechanic took a "shortcut" mad

Corey,
Here is a link to engine mounts that might work for you.

My original mounts are still holding in there.

Rob

I have those mounts and they are supposed to be moulded one piece, same as a car. I have a spare for my boat and it is solid. Greg
