Vic - if they just started flying the masthead spin, the rating should be adjusted.

If they have been racing that spinnaker all along, you may be able to get retroactive adjustments to past results.

roger, roger ... same, same program for him ...

Normally in a W/L, which is what we normally race here, it doesn't work all that well ... but he is experimenting with hotter angles on wind changes where this seems to be working for him. [VMG to waypoint]

for those of you who need refresher:
I is measured along the front of mast from the genoa halyard to the main deck.

ISP is similar to I. It is measured from the highest spinnaker halyard to the main deck.

BUT NOTE:
on J30 we have two Spin blocks ... I thinking we should always be using the high one.

Probably not. Once the time to file a protest or for redress has passed you are out of luck. ISAF Case 57 (2009-12) deals with this type of situation. However a competitor, advised that they have sailed in a configuration inconsistent with their certificate, would do well to retire from those races under the basic principal of sportsmanship. Nice gesture though often ignored by the RC.
