So a fantastic trailer base has basically fallen into my lap. Unfortunately, some stands will need to be welded (I'm thinking one for the stem and another on each side forward of the ones already on there, see photos attached) I'm hoping that someone out there who already has a trailer might be able to supply me with a couple dimensions. Looking for stand length up from the keel, trailer width and angle/length of the stem stand. Anybody who has access to knows where to find this info would be so helpful.

Hey great, thanks so much for the link. Just bought my welder, tube stock next week and the adventure begins. I'll post pictures. Have you found that you could drive your j right onto the trailer on the average launch platform or should I get it slung out and set on the trailer at a local yard?

Cheers,

Josh

unless you have a 20'-30' extender for your trailer, I could not imagine floating your boat off. Plus, my trailer is painted steel- not aluminum and I doubt that the wiring would endure a lot of dunking.
We sling it on and off the trailer.

last winter buddy with somewhat short keel found that the ramp is not endless but stops... Trailer tires dropped off the end of the submerged ramp ... required a diver to get them back on the ramp. so OK the diver was part of the fire department, and had a fire truck and two assistants with him. With the fire truck automatically came a police car, and then we also had a tow truck ... duh... [what you see is the front mast carrier which was the only thing above water.]

the bottom of your keel will have to sit lower than the one in the picture or your going to be over height. I have a 50 ft extension that goes between my boat and trailer to float the boat off. usually great entertainment for the know-it-all's at the ramp.

heh, I think getting it slung on and off will be the best option. I will be re-welding the keel bed as part of the three new trusses I will be installing so it will be lower than in the picture. The link from rhapsody was perfect, I'll just stick to those dimensions. Scrapping the wooden boat on monday and the welding will commence shortly thereafter. Thanks for all the help.

Wooden boat is scrapped and the trailer modification is in progress. The old cradle revealed some serious rust rot in the rear trailer trusses so I am in the process of cutting out the compromised ones and welding in new. See pictures below. Thanks so much to Russ for the measured drawings (just to be clear those heights are tube and head to the hull not just the tube itself right?) My trailer is only 25' long so I'm thinking I'll have the bow come right up to the front above the hitch and have 5' sticking out the back. The trailer in Russ's photos has 9 stands, look pretty bulletproof but I'm just planning to use mine twice a year to cover the three miles from my house to the harbor, can I get away with 7 stands? All the 30' boats I've seen on the hard use that configuration. Any thoughts would be welcomed!

Thanks!

Josh
