What roller furling system fits the J30. What size Genoa is the best fit.

Mine is Harken MK III Unit 0
I sail PHRF and a 155% fits fine JLL=34.1
I expect you could use a 162% equally well. Clew height is sensitive as the track is not very long

note: you have to decide when ordering a sail for a roller what height you want the clew. Cruisers who like to see under the sail order high clew, but if you are going to race at all you need to order the clew as low as possible ... and you still won't get a deck sweeper.

So OK ... Bill Rhapsody was sailing with us a couple of weeks ago and mentioned using a Tack Shackle on the Harken. Which reminded me that I had picked up a couple from Ebay china several years ago, but the width of the tab on the Harken was too big for them. And the next size shackle up, the pin was too big.

Duh ... 5 min with a dremel ground them down just enough ... about .5 mm each side ... I have a second one to grind down for the top swivel.

for those of you surprised that I am using mm ... it is because it is a lot easier to use on a caliper than in.

And yes Wing on Wing works well on a J/30 especially when there are long arms.

This is a 155 jenny and would have no problem with the track for a 163.

Vic - glad you got the shackles to fit. No more dropping hardware overboard when the bowman is trying to do a sail change in rough seas.

This pin looks about 5mm x 1 in. shaft. I ground the sides of the fitting about .5mm off each side.

Why not just use an Amsteel soft shackle?

The harken flange has sharp edges at the hole so it would require a steel shackle at the flange ... at which point it becomes a length of luff issue. This tack shackle is pretty close for a fitting but still is about an inch more than the OEM shackle harken supplies.

In addition Bill is addicted to having a snap shackle at the tack, nothing to slip overboard.

Stainless supplier cheap

I think I used the 093 with the 1/2 in. opening, but had to dremmel the opening. 091 looks like a 9/16 opening. but will probably cut a couple of inches off the available luff length as the shackle is an inch bigger.

use coupon code m315 trough 3/6 for an extra 15% off the sale price.
