I don't know where to put this...

While the governors were all doing our governing business, Past President WHK was having lots of fun:

Hey Dennis! Nice to hear from you. Any excitement in your life lately? As you can see, retirement can be quite mundane :-)

Nope, not a whole lot right now. Trying to splash the boat in a week or so. Working for the govment, trying to keep it safe from cyber attacks. Finally getting to be spring time here.

A little less excitement in your life would probably be a good thing wink

What was your most effective means of communication to the coasties/Navy? Did VHF manage to get them, or did it take the EPIRB?

I'm going to be out in Barrington for the J/30 - J/29 thing on July 25/26. Perhaps I can buy you a bevy or 2?

Dennis,

The VHF with the Navy ship nearby was the most effective. I was also on the Sat phone to the USCG. It dropped a call but was able to re-establish signal and redial. I used that to alert the USCG that we were setting off the EPIRB so that vectoring the helo was easier.

I'm doing the New England Solo-Twin doublehanded race on Vento Solare 24/25 July and will try and get up to Barrington on the 26th to take you up on your beer offer!

Wow. Bill, impressive handling of a life threatening situation, not to mention the quick and competent response by Navy/MSC and USCG. Happy to know you and the boat owner are safe. Well documented as always.

Would imagine there are lessons to be learned even with the positive outcome. First that comes to mind—when you are out in the ocean, a rubber mat and a couple two by fours could come in handy.
