I have just ordered a boomkicker and am wondering if part of your installation included running the boom vang control line back to the cockpit. If so, have you just used fairleads and a simple cam cleat or a rope cluch?

I would say it's never okay to try to run the vang aft. The loads are too great for the deck. I feel this is generally true of all boats, and this is why you don't see it very often. Leave the block & tackle gear hanging from the boom. If you "fused" your vang system, maybe then it would be okay because then your fuse would break before you ripped out the deck attachments. Boomkickers look cool.

I am considering adding a boomkicker and a mast console to Footloose... with no additional holes to the mast. My instruments (old st60) needs wires. I am pondering on how well those (three) wires can share the mast groove with the boomkicker bracket.
I saw a few boat like this on 2016 NA video, but not sure about the wires... Any feedback appreciated.
I also noticed that boomkicker has a specific model for the J30... any notion of what is specific in it? Cheers,

Hi Georges,
I asked Ted at Seoladair and got the following response: "For the J30 we found the longer length of the K1250 fit best, but the standard rods were too forceful. So the custom model part K15J30, is basically the K1250 with optional smaller diameter rods plus some specific instructions". I purchased the K15J30 and initially thought that the rods didn't have enough force, but never bothered to have them swapped out, and if I were to do it again, I'd buy the same K15J30 as I now like it as it is.
I doubt that any wires would fit in the mast groove if you use the slug that comes with the boomkicker. The previous owner of Blitz drilled and tapped two holes (#8 machine screws I think) into the center of the slot for a mast bracket. As he was a spar vendor, I'm pretty confident that these holes don't cause any problems, as long as something like Tef-Gel or loctite is used to counter the effects of dissimilar metals.
GL,
-Chris

Thanks Chris. Got the same info from Seoladair after my post. :-) The tef gel is good reminder. Does you boomkicker flex upward or downward? I am considering installing it to flex downward to prevent interaction with the mast console...
