I've recently purchased a J-30, Breakaway. I think there are others named that. Anyway, I want to remove the table. PO said it doesn't come out. I didn't quiz them any further. I got the table off the legs, but the tubes are not wanting to budge. Question is, how hard can I try to turn or otherwise free them before I either destroy them or cause some other damage. My thought is they are just stuck and perhaps I can find something to unseize them. It's in my way.

I had the same problem and finally gave up on removing them because I didn't want to crack the structural ribs they sit in. But the open tubes sticking up were pretty menacing looking (especially for race crew running around in the cabin)-so one of my crew members with a talent for woodworking made me a beautiful little cocktail table to cover over the legs (it even has cutouts in it perfectly sized to hold a post race/cocktail hour Solo cup!). The other option would be to cut the legs off at the base, but that would mean you would not be able to re-install the table for cruising.

I would post a photo of the table in place but I can't figure out how to copy it here!

Thanks Steve, all good ideas. I read a post a ways back in this forum of the legs being cut off and inserts made to fit to re-insert the legs and table when wanted. Given my wife and I's cruising time and activity, I doubt a large table will ever be required. The last boat had one but I was constantly having to clear it off prior to sailing. I think the table is rather cumbersome to be taking it in and out or stow. Thanks for the reply.

I like what Steve is describing! Personally, I like having just the center portion of the table installed with the two hinged leaves and heavy wire bails removed. For not much additional weight (right over the keel I might add), it provides a nice handhold for quick cabin travel during races and just enough of a table for short cruising. The removal of the leaves also make for more usable gear storage space during races.

Chris. Thanks for the alternative. I'll do this and see how the 210 mile delivery goes sailing it home next month. Restrictive Covid 19 Executive Orders allowing travel. It's a great idea rather than just sawing the legs off where they disappear into the keel.

I have a table and legs and wondering how to mount to the deck? Do you have any photo's to share or tell me how to mount?
Thanks,
