I like to make the engine cover more user friendly. With the lead weight and size it's cumbersome to move. I like to know if anyone has added access hatches or any other modifications.
thanks

Mondial's previous owner cut access hatches into the sides as well as the front (between two of steps). On the side hatches, I made nicer wood covers that mounted with hinges and a latch, but I don't use them frequently. It's possible to get to the oil dipstick but the visibility is poor. Ultimately, it's easier just to pick up the entire engine cover and move it out of the way.

When I raced on John McArthur's boat Smiles last year, I think he he had an access panel cut in the side of the cover so you could easily align the shaft position before racing. Maybe John can post a picture of that.

I replaced the sound proofing with a sound deading paint called Silent Running. Reduced the weight significantly and does a much better job with sound proofing. I used two small bottles that I bought from Defender.com.

Bill, did you ever come up with a modification? I've been thinking about modifying the engine cover too. When Majic Carpet was for sale, I went and looked at it - I want to say it had a 3-piece engine cover, but I can't remember.

I never did anything. I have seen boats that put in a removable round inspection port on the side of the engine cover.
