I bought my 1986 J30 last summer. Today on the boat I noticed something which I am not sure if I should be concerned about.

On the V Berth bulkhead starboard side, the top of the bulkhead has slightly separated from the ceiling. Also the small bulkhead in the galley which is connected to the salon (port side), has also separated from the ceiling slightly.

Is this a symptom of a more serious problem and should I be concerned? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I checked the main bulkhead which the chain plates are connected to and it is dry and very solid.

The bulkhead should float at the top and not be attached to the deck. It should be tabbed to the hull around the periphery. The deck "floats" and the chainplate should pass though the deck and be securely anchored to the bulkhead. Check my old Rhapsody blog for some more photos. Below shows the trim piece that covers the void.

sorry I am not referring to the main bulkhead. I am referring to the wall in the v berth and the short wall in the galley. I am not sure if those are bulkheads or just walls, no idea what to call them.

The main bulkhead which your pictures reference is fine solid and dry.

Sorry - I don't have any pictures and no longer own a J/30 to reference. Can you post pictures?
