I have been trying to get measurements for my rigging to purchase a new spinnaker. The one thing that I kept seeing was the "Black mast band" I have a painted black mast and no band or any signs of a previous marking for one. Is this a requirement for NA's and if so, if I calculated right it should be 8 feet 8 inched from molded step.

Ryan,
Yes, the band is a requirement for the NA's. I'll send you the full measurement checklist for the regatta via email.

Ryan:

The measurement is from the bottom of the mast to the top edge of the bottom band and to the bottom edge of the top band. As follows:

Bottom of mast to the top edge of the bottom band: 2,698mm or 8.85 feet.

Top edge of the bottom band to bottom edge of the top band: 11,582 or 37.998 feet.

We do not measure these during inspection for the NA's but do check to see if they are in place.
Obviously, your bands should be white.

This information is available on the website under rules and specifications

Ryan

I believe the sailmaker wants the J measurement for your spinnaker.

Thanks for the info, I do not have any bands as the mast was painted black when i purchased her. Do the bands have to be painted or could i use white tape ?
