While racing the summer series while on starboard tack, I managed to hook my rig on a port tack boat. I was lucky as I did not loose the rig. The upper part of the mast did buckle evenly on both sides and I will require a new mast. The rigger got a quote from Hall spars. Are there any recommendations on who makes the best mast?

The three approved mast manufacturers by the J/30 Class are Hall, Sparcraft (in Charlotte NC), and LeFeill Marine (Santa Fe Springs, Ca). Of those three, I don't know who is the best.

By the way, Cory Butlin at Hall owns a J/30 and perhaps could answer questions questions specific to the boat.

To have a Class legal mast you must obtain your mast from a J30 Class approved builder. The mast is a "Kenyon" 4060 and the boom is an "E" Section. Hall Spars and Rig Right (ex Kenyon)are J30 Class approved mast builders. Larry Christy J30 Class Measurer
