I have an old boom you can have. It was broken in half. It has been welded back together and reinforced with a piece of angle bracket on the top and another on the bottom. The bracket for the boom vang has been located about 8" further back. We used it for a season while I waited for a new one so I can tell you it is plenty strong. It doesn't look pretty and you will have to have a loose footed main (the track for the foot bolt rope is covered by the top piece of angle bracket). It is located in south east Michigan. All you have to do is pick it up or figure out how to ship it.
I'm still curious about sources and prices for new booms. Many of my threaded sockets are strippd out due to the softness of alu. The plan is to rent an industrial rivet gun, or rethread the holes to a wider diameter this winter. What have other done?
