J/30 Class - David Erwin and I swapped some emails on how we should keep track of hulls that have been lost (e.g. Hurricane loss resulting in boat totaled). There are some options and we want to get feedback on what works for the class.
1. Create a separate fleet category "Lost", but keep the name, email and state of the last owner visible just like all the other records. 2. Keep the boat in the fleet it was lost but add a check-mark indicating "Lost" on the web form. Keep the name, email and state of the last owner visible just like all the other records.
As it stands now, anyone should be able to sort the database by "Fleet" or "State" to see the J/30s in those respective areas. There is other information stored in each record that is not displayed publicly, but is available for extract if needed for special situations.
Post any comments in this thread on desires for "Lost" boat indication and suggestions for how the fleet database may be improved to help the class.

Pretty sure the USA 90 is just applying the international letters under RRS G1, even though we are not a recognized ISAF class.
I think it's a good idea to keep track of 'lost' boats and your method seems reasonable. One thing that concerns me is the number of boats I have seen lately that due to refinishing or painting no longer have their hull ID on the transom.
My hull has been repainted in the past and the serial number is not visible on the transom. However, the hull number is stamped in the cockpit just aft of the companionway entrance. Maybe this is just on the early boats?
