I'm trying to find a new mast boot or collar that fits around the mast and over the raised portion of the deck hole through which the mast is stepped. I contacted Rig Rite, but they had just sold their last one and told me their source was no longer available. Help !! :-)

I bought one 2 or 3 years ago. I can't remeber if it was through Tillotsen-Pearson or the supplier. However, the info I have in my file says:
SSI ( Sailing Specialties, Inc.)
PO Box 99 - Commerce Ave.
Hollywood, MD 20636
301-373-2372
Try them if they are still in business.

Spartite is a 2 part product that you pour into the space between the mast and deck. It dries to a hard ruber like thing. Seems to be pretty effective at keeping water out.

I think it comes in 2 sizes... If you have a really old boat, you probably need the larger size.

I just purchased a new mast boot from TPI for the J30. Was very reasonably priced. It looks just like the old one. I have not installed yet but looks like it will be no trouble.

I used spartite two years ago and have mixed reactions. You loose ability to change the mast postion if needed, so be sure you have mast where you want it before using spartite. I didn't feel spartite would stop leaks so I used a universal boot in addition to spartite. Still have some water that comes down groove in mast.

When I went to buy a Spartite kit today, they said that a minimum thickness of 1/2 inch is required for the entire circumference of the mast. We step our mast at the absolute back of the hole in the deck, as per the tuning guide, which meams that there will not be a complete "ring" of Spartite. Has this been a problem for others, or have you moved the mast forward in the partners to allow room for Spartite on the aft edge of the mast as well?

Do I need the large or small kit, and I assume I want the "racing", not the "cruising" version. (I didn't know there was a difference)

Thanks in advance!
