I need to replace all of my hatches, starting with the large forward one. Can anyone suggest the best brand, including model number?

Just replaced Front hatch with a Bomar Model
995-1100(black frame) available from Defender
for @ $186 plus dropship cost,
Used 3M 5200 (Bomar rec), whole procedure took 2hrs. Fit perfectly. They also have have
Model 910 which fits the smaller hatches.

I found a vendor for the Bomar Nibo hatches that replace the original hatches exactly. Check out www.thriftymariner.com
They have overstock, discontinued and factory seconds.

The website shows the prices for the forward hatch, Model 995, at $84! The smaller hatches over the main cabin and head, Model 910, go for $45!

Here's the problem: I've been trying to reach them for 2 weeks by phone and email and have not heard back from them. I hope they're still in business!

I replaced the two small cabintop hatches with two Lewmar Ocean No. 10 hatches (PN 39610050) from Layline. I replaced the hatch at the forward end of the cockpit under the bridge deck with a Lewmar Ocean No. 1 (PN 39392050) from Layline. The foredeck hatch was replaced with a Lewmar before I bought the boat in 1985. No problems with any of the Lewmar hatches over the years; they're built like bank vault doors.

Henry Mallard at Layline owns a J/30 and can tell you as much as you want to know about various hatches and installation tips.

An update to my earlier message:

I spoke today with Jeff at ThriftyMariner. He can be reached by his cell phone at 813-625-8466. He said that if you mention the J-30 Class Association, he'll give another 10% off.

He's sending me the forward hatch that someone returned because it was black not white for $85. No nicks,no dings, perfect. West Marine lists the same hatch for $207.99.
