I am a new J30 owner with a very standard (ie as it came from the factory) deck setup. When flying the spinnaker the other day, I noticed that the lead of the guy on a tight reach crosses the lifelines. Has anyone installed twings on a padeye for fairlead purposes? Does anyone have suggestions for running the guy so that it does not ride over the lifelines? Thanks, Jon

I believe that most active racing J-30's have a twing set up on the stanchion bases aft of the chainplates, with the line run through a padeye up the cabin side into a cam cleat operated from the pit. This works very well on my boat.

I have a twing set up running through a block on a padeye at max beam. If the pole is at the headstay, it will still rub on the lifelines some. If we know that we are going to be pole on the headstay in heavy air, we will rig a guy inside the lifelines, on a snatch block off the stantion by the chainplates.
We run our spin lines inside the lifelines. I believe the J24s also do this (at least I got the idea from a J-World J24 video). Twings or snatch blocks are still necessary to keep the guy off the shrouds and to shape the spin. We use snatch blocks to reduce the clutter of control lines associated with twings.
