I found a new one at Rig Rite, the J30 mast manufacturer/supplier in Rhode Island, in 2002.

I had to pay what seemed big bucks for a boot a rig right$50.00 I have spar tite in hull 27. I check it occasionally to make sure it is not working loose. Mine does not have a set screwit is quicker to set up after the mast goes up because there is no adjustment. I know a J-29 owner who states he adjusts the partners with the wind conditions. that is the trade off.

Thanks found the address at rig rite and they list one for the J 30 .. cost is 59.00 bucks...ouch ..
Spartite .Hmm even more expensive , and I dont know if it lasts when you pull the mast and stuff...
Clint, what do u mean with adjusting the partners ? I have a metal piece in the bottom of the boat , which I guess can be adjusted, but nothing inbetween the mast and the deck. DO you guys have anything stuffed inbetween ?? My mast is pretty much all the way to the aft of the hole.

Maybe I want to adjust the plate in the boat bottom a little bit back in order to have less weather helm. Bad idea ?

Help .. lol ....you guys have me confused now..
lol

On my boat (which is an '84 model) the partners are without any shims-the mast sits hard against the aft end of the opening. With the step max forward, this keeps the mast with maximum rake/minimum prebend. The 30 is light air starved, and this setup maximizes helm feel. In the heavy stuff, tighten the rig and honk on the backstay to flatten/depower.

Maybe that is why I do not win the big races.!!! I thought the partners caused the mast to bend at the deck and not below. I have not thought what that advantage would be. The Etchells class has adjustments of the partners and evidently it helps some. I realize the class feels it is best to maximize the J measuremet, and forestay length but in high winds the forestay might want to be shortened. With the spartite I cannot adjust the partners. To answer the previous question the spartite is a cast plastic which can be removed with the mast and replaced when the mast goes in. My hull #27 and the earlier J-30s had a larger mast partner than the later models. the mast boot fits over an aluminum cover that then fits over the partners. I am not sure if the aluminum cover is factory issue or previous owner customizing.
