Hum, I have obtained an official 5 digit number from US Sailing to avoid sail number duplication in all parts of the country - except Annapolis :>)

You could call them and if it was previously registered to your hull, they will update the records to your name at no charge. I think the duplicate number is a Chesapeake Bay issue.
