Anyone have original ideas for chart storage? I use a book of charts about 18"x24" that fits on the nav station well. Unfortunately, they get trashed if they are left there. I am looking for a convenient, safe dry storage location on an original layout (6 berth) model.

Consider some (3) bungee's, on the ceiling of the starboard quarter berth (overhead)....tight enough to "wedge" the book into without it escaping, handy, out of the way, and no woodworking necessary except the 6 screws on the ends....or replace the book with a laptop and Maptech charts connected to a GPS...that works OK too!

The J/Boats website has some information on the J-30. I had noticed an article placed there some time ago regarding outfitting a J-30 for long range cruising. The authors had an interesting idea on chart storage, together with basic instructions. It incorporated a shelf just under the companionway bdidgedeck - just above the top step in the cabin.
