Hello,

I am the owner of Hull #126 Shanti and live in the Cayman Islands which most of you probably know was devastated by Ivan. There is a photo of Shanti on davidolson.com and it seems to be most popular on many sites in the US. For your information, Shanti was moored in a sheltered creek on a 400lb anchor, 50 feet of 5/8 chain, another 50 feet of 3/8 chain going to a large car engine block that being anchored with 30 feet of chain and a Danforth. The Category 5 hurricane dragged this huge amount of ground tackle 1/4 mile and the boat was grounded and left leant against a house - there must have been an 8 feet surge.

The two main nylon rodes chaffed through on the seawall and the thing that saved it was that I had put the Fortress anchor over the side with all the rode and tied a bowline to the mast. This held it between a tree and a house where it was beaten by is salvageable if I do the work myself. I have a long restoration job and will need to know where to get various bits like spreaders, tiller, pulpit and pushpit. Any suggestions appreciated.

Regards,
Mark

Mark, I think I found the picture. Is it ...
http://www.marek.qc.ca/cayman_ivan/photos.asp?dir=Folder1&pic=15 ?

That's an amazing picture!!

For the spreaders and other rigging items, you can contact Rig-Rite. They now own the rights and remaining inventory of Kenyon Spars. They also have the replacement stanchions. Rig-Rite's contact information is on the website. From the home page, hit the "Market" tab and then "Equipment Suppliers". I believe that you can get replacement bow and stern pulpits from "Tops in Quality". I don't have their contact information handy, but you can probably find them on the web.

I just happened to have replaced my tiller....there are still 7-8 in stock in Maryland, although discontinued. At 80.00us its no surprise...can't make one for that. Contact West Marine... they will have to look for it but its there. Good Luck

Well hull 535 went through Andrew and did not survive as well as yours did. The best of luck on the rebuild it is worth it.
