This just in from the mid-west's prestigious North Cape Yacht Club, home of Anna Tunnicliffe, 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist and the legendary Bruce Goldsmith; the J/30, Wildcat, wins the coveted Red Cloud trophy given to its overall PHRF champion. Sailing against over 30 boats in three divisions, the championship is determined from 15 races sailed over an entire season. Among others, the fleet consisted of two sail makers, several past national champions and included a Tartan T10 skippered by the 2007 T10 national champion, 2008 Interlake national champion and local sail maker, a Melges 30, two Soveral 33's, two J/29's, a J/92,a second J/30, an Evelyn 32, a C&C 110, two Santana 35's, a J/35, an Andrews 26 and 6 Hobie 33's. In addition to being a fantastic boat for one design racing this performance against sport boats and other current vintage yachts is just another example of the J/30's endurance and capability in all around PHRF racing.
After the final race in which the boat cemented its victory by placing first in class and first overall, the skipper congratulated and complimented his crew's consistent, precision and surgical like performance, the great work done by the local Quantum sails loft, the ability of the J/30 to be a contender in most every sailing condition and particularly, his 4-1/2 year old Kevlar with carbon tape drive main - lol.
