We had a fellow race "object" to our spinnaker pole set-up during the starting sequence this evening We have been rigging the boat by attaching the pole to the mast and having it angle down and protrude past the bow at the deck (we have the 12'-6" pole) After today's objection we raised the pole at the mast (increasing the angle) until it did not exceed past the bow
What is the proper set-up? Should the pole be on the deck and only rigged for each downwind leg? Or can it be rigged to the mast and angled down

We keep the pole clipped to the base of the shroud and it pokes out the pulpit but not past the bow. Not sure what his objection was but have him protest you if he does not like it. The top of pulpit is quite a bit farther out than the bow of the boat, does he object to that?
