Four Major J30 One Design regattas are scheduled for the Long Island Sound District this season!
The Cedar Point One Design (CPOD) Regatta June 3 & 4 for J30s, J105s, J109 and level 72 classes are scheduled. Five races over two days. The regatta has been re-scheduled to June from its original July date to accommodate the Red Grant Regatta in Rariton Bay. This regatta was formerly known as the CPYC Championship Regatta. This is the LIS J30 District Championship! Please check the CPOD Regatta Web Site for details. http://www.cedarpointyc.org/uploads/CPYC_0d_Regatta_NOR_pdf
The Rariton Yacht Clubs Red Grant Regatta will also host a J30 One Design class on July 8 & 9. This should be a great racing venue! For the J30 Skippers delivering their boats from LIS the trip down the East River viewing Manhattan and then the Statue of Liberty is worth the trip. Check the Raritan Yacht Club Web Site for details. http://www.ryc.org
The Larchmont NOOD is scheduled for September 9 & 10 at Larchmont Yacht Club, NY. This is a long standing J30 One Design event and the J30 East Coast Championsip. Please check the Sailing World NOOD Regatta Web Site for details.
The 2006 J30 North American Championship is scheduled for September 14-17 at Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport, Connecticut. Registration is scheduled for Sept. 14thand racing Sept. 15th-17th. Details are not finalized. Please check the J30 Web Site or the CPYC's Web Site as more information becomes available. http://www.cedarpoint.org John McArthur

The two Raritan YC J-30's will be trekking up to the Sound twice for these events-hope we can pull some of the City Island contingent and the CPYC crowd down for our Red Grant regatta.

This should be a excellent season of One Design racing on the Sound! Smiles and Laser Beam are coming to Raritan Bay from Cedar Point. I'm 99% sure that Youthful Indiscretion will make it as well.
I have lost track of a few resently sold J30s in our area. Does anyone know the new owners of Paddy Wagon, Chinnock, or any other area J30s? What is Pale Rider (Stefan Jans?) doing? John McArthur "Smiles"

I noticed that Pale Rider and Excalibur are registered in the City Island Wednesday series-if we can get them to do CPYC and RYC events, we should have a respectable one design fleet at both. Does Fat City ever travel?

We will probably coming to CPYC on june 3/4 if I'm able to get my motor running above 2500 rpm without overheating.... Don't know about rariton yet because we also are planning on going to BIRW.
Paddy Wagon is renamed Kinsale and is currently racing on wednesdaynights in the EBYRA.

Stefan, Steve right, Raritan is not that far from City Island! CPYC may be able to work something out if you would like to leave your boat there prior to head off to BIRW.
About your engine overheating problem, I had a problem like that a few years ago. Turned out to be the raw water pump had "clearanced" itself. It looked fine, I had installed a new impeller but it would not pump water or enough water. I replace the whole assembly and it worked fine. You could try removeing the back cover on the pump and sanding it on a flat surface or try turning it over. John McArthur

Turnout for the districts is shaping up. So, mark June 3rd and 4th on the schedule, and join in!
We've got:
Fuzzy Wuzzy, Pale Rider, Smiles, Laser Beam, Youthul Indiscretion, and Blue Jacket registered. I *KNOW* we're going to see Blue Meanie and Dow Jones, but we don't have registrations yet.... And of course, we should see several other of our regular boats.
The $50 late fee kicks in shortly, (after the 25th) so now's a good time to go and register.
Originally posted by S. Buzbee: Let's get "Kinsale" in to the loop too.
I purchased #274 Paddywagon from Joe MaCann and Renamed it Kinsale. I wrote a check to the J-30 class association on Feb.28,2006.I have not heard from anyone and as I see the directy has not been updated since 1-10-06 I am not sure if I am in "the loop". I am planing to do both the Larchmont NOOD and the northamericans in Sept. I need to know if my registration was recived. Mike White

Hi "Kinsale". Come on up to Westport on June 3rd and 4th to race in the districts as well! We will have 9boats minimum if you make it up. Welcome to the class! John M. who put up the original post on this thread is class president-I'm sure your info will be in the database soon.

We're up to 11, with "Special Sauce" and "Bad Dog" pushing us into double digits. One more boat and we're an even dozen. I know we're still missing some active folks. Come up to Westport, we'll be having some serious fun this weekend.

Bengt Johansson and Fuzzy Wuzzy certainly didn't seem fuzzy at all as they racked up a dominating score line to win the Fleet 4 districts. With 12 boats racing, and two days of breeze (and one of rain) we got in five races, all hard fought. John McArthur's Smiles took second, with Steve Buzbee's Blue Meanie third.
We had boats from both ends of the District, With Blue Meanie and Fuzzy Wuzzy treking all the way up from Raritan, Pale Rider comming up from City Island and Special Sauce making the (shorter) trip from the east end of the district in Black Rock. Getting 12 boats, and getting boats from all over the region marked this is the best attended Districts in years.
I hope I can speak for everyone who came out and raced in saying it was an incredible time, and that I look forward to seeing everyone back out again at future one design events. You can go take a look at www.thephotoboat.com and see a ton of pictures that were taken on the water over the weekend.
Next up, the Red Grant, down in Raritan, on July 8 and 9th, followed by the NOOD, at Larchmont, September 9th and 10th, and then the J/30 North Americans, back at Cedar Point, on the following weekend, September 15th, 16th and 17th. Building on this weekend's turnout, I hope to see us solidly break 20 boats at the NAs.
