Steve-
You raced in the NA's last year. What happened to the stove that was in your boat last year?

Hey Steve...we've had several offers of a "loaner stove" in Annapolis...don't let it stop you from coming...certainly theres ENOUGH hurdles to clear to get measured in. I was gonna borrow a 2 burner and duct tape it where its supposed to be...if I was using Loco Lobo... but now I don't have to. So I'll find you one from another J30 not racing. BUT, same question I had for LOBO...what happened to the stove from the last NAs? In any case, please come play...its all about getting J30s to the start line... Let me know if I can help, I arrive Annapolis 9/22 Cyn

The technical committee met by telephone conference to discuss this issue. We agreed to a short term solution by allowing boats with out a suitable stove to carry 18 lbs of lead or a small stove and lead to equal 18 lbs. in the location of the stove. A 2 burner stove (Origo) weighs 17 lbs 14 ozs. All boats even the newer models were required to have at least a 2 burner stove. However the 2 burner stove would not fit in the newer boats. Hopefully the issue of the stove requirement will be addressed by the J30 Board of Govenors this winter.

Larry - Thanks for working this behind the scenes. This is exactly the kind of response needed to help the class "get legal" with an item that has changed since the original boats were built, and allow everyone to meet the intention of the rules. This post should enable anyone who had a question to quickly comply in a cost effective manner. Good news for everyone!

Everyone should consider this topic complete for now, with final closure after the J/30 Board of Governors meet this winter.

Since I have only used this stove on Vee Jay three times in 25 years ... I decided to listen to Bill and took it out of Vee Jay 2 today ... This is a monster and no way I was going to get it down a ladder by myself ... fortunately had a chain fall nearby. the stove, bottle, solenoid/switch combined have to come in over 80 lbs.

If we have an 18lb rule for a stove ... let that be the definition ... 18 lbs for a stove. or if all else fails ... I think the door alone on this turkey weighs 18 lbs ... why they ever put it in as standard equipment mystifies me.

Now that I think about it, a number of the new boats coming out are only equipped with a microwave "stove".

J30s upgraded slugs on main, we upgraded roller furling, we upgraded selftailing winches, Harken this and Harken that, no need for cushions in vee berth, no need for cushions in aft berth ... why are we acting lost on this stove stuff?
Anyway I am thinking I now have a great add on for the camp shack.
