Bill and Dave here announcing improvements to our class web site making it more relevant and accessible. In early 2009 the J/30 Class co-presidents John McArthur and Carl Sherter declared the class web site and forum the official mechanism for J/30 Class communications. We've renovated J30.org with current Web 2.0 technology standards using blogs and widgets. This will help us improve class communications and continue to keep in touch - especially with the newest generation of sailors.

In 2010 and beyond, we want more media coverage from the fleets to include announcements, regatta news, video and photos. Each fleet should nominate a person to serve as news chairman. If you would like to volunteer, contact your fleet captain. We will provide innovative access methods to the publish class news to be automatically posted on the front page of J30.org. You will also be able to subscribe to the news feeds using browsers, iPhones, Blackberrys and other PDAs.
The new system has a floating design. If you use a browser in resize mode, you'll notice that pages automatically shape to fit the window size. This will help as we all have different screen sizes to it make our programming efforts a bit easier.
We have added the US Sailing and the ISAF new feeds. As these sailing organizations add more content, it will automatically appear on J30.org. You'll get the latest and greatest news on the class web site.

With the growth of social media, we expect the new web site to integrate nicely with Facebook and other networks. Many do not know of the J30 Sailing group on Facebook. If you are using Facebook, we recommend that you join the group.
Please continue to help us proof the new web site by visiting http://J30.us/blog. If you see any formatting or content errors, let us know.

Ok folks - Just letting you know that Dave Erwin did all the heavy lifting on getting the new class website up and running. My contribution was merely some comments and suggestions on stuff he put up behind the scenes.

The way Dave set this up allows everyone to be more "interactive" and should help feed J/30 and related sailing information to whatever device you use for browsing (Computer, Blackberry, iPhone, PDA, etc.)

What we need is some active participation by class members with interesting content. Feel free to contribute stories, and pictures for any relevant J/30 stuff - J/30 One Design, PHRF Cruising, and any other content that people would enjoy.

So - Thanks Dave Erwin for bringing us into the 21st century with the new web technology.

Information and "Articles of Interest" from the really old class website (1997-2000) has been formatted for the new J/30 Class website and dropped into the new menu structure. There shouldn't be any more dead links.

Please report any dead links or errors if you find any. There is a wealth on knowledge in some of these old articles, but the information is dated and really should be brought up to date with current information. If anyone would like to research and update information for any of these pages, please contact me or Dave Erwin. Go to the J/30 Class Website, and look in the menu structure under "Info", "Articles of Interest".

There are various rig tuning guides available for the J/30. The class website has been updated to include the guides from Banks Sails, Shore Sails, UK-Ulmer Sails, and North Sails. The copy of the North Sails document has missing data in some of the tables, so if anyone has that, please sent it to me and I'll update the website.

All but the Shore Sails guide are available online for viewing and to download for printing. Since the Shore Sails guide was an old scanned document, it's only available to download.

Link to web page

Or from the J/30 Class website menu select "Info", "Articles of Interest", "J/30 Rig Tuning"

Looking at the "Crew Assignments" under 'Info' / 'Articles of Interest', the text does not wrap, so much of the info is hidden.

I also have a 64MB pdf Yanmar shop manual that would be useful to keep and make easily available on the web site. Not sure how to upload that big of a file though. Perhaps you already have it or a link to one, but it would be good to get one on the site for safe-keeping. Also, 14MB pdf Service Manual, 2.6MB pdf Operation Manual, 500KB pdf Parts List, 23KB .xls parts list, 75KB pdf parts list.

Thanks for you efforts to consolidate this valuable information.

Al - I checked out the "Crew Assignments" on my PC using Firefox 3.54 and IE6.0. It looks fine with those. What browser are you using?

Look at these links and let me know if they are the same documents:
Yanmar Operation & Maintenance Manual for 1GM, 2GM, 3GMD, 3HM (PDF)
Yanmar 2GM Parts List one page summary (PDF)
Various Yanmar Links Including Service Manual (Dutch Website)

Email me anything that isn't there and I'll host it.

I am using IE7. The article mentioned is the only one I could find where the problem is apparent.

The manuals you have links to, are the same as those that I have. Are they available on the new web site?

Al
