1982 J/30 Hull ID TSP00385N82B Renegade located Southington, CT

This boat is for sale here in Ct. It can be seen anytime. The Yanmar 13 HP Diesel motor runs excellent and was test run and inspected by Sound Marine Diesel LLC. Hull is in very nice shape. The top sides look and feel solid. There is a small split in ceiling maybe 4 " long. No water appears there. The wood trim will need some restore. Wash & wax would make hull shine. Bottom has been always barrier coated and racing painted. Boot strip needs repaint. The botton has been faired around the thru hull fittings as former owner has all fitting smoothed out to match bottom. We have repaired a few spots that had chips, gouges and faired the fittings and some spots on the keel. There was a small repair done behuind the keel that was just faired and was solid. We will not paint the bottom as per advice here on this board that someone may want their own system installed and color. All racing hardware and rigging. Sails included. One sail looks to have water damage. Interior is original condition. Woodworking needs some varnish and clean up. Cushions and wood all original condition. The floors in cabin did have standing fresh water in boat for some time. When arrived here we drianed out and the floors stiull are solid. Some spots still wet because of plugged drains in hull. There might be few soft spots in wood but overall good condition.Custom instrument panel with guage package mounted on deck. Electronics were not tested. All hatches good. Owner wants to make sure this post outlines that this boat is NOT water ready and will need some work to get to that condition. Anyone interested in this boat please come and see it. This is a great boat that needs some work to get it back to its former racing condition or less to make it a great cruiser. Email me for many more pictures and direction. Boat is located at Affordable Marine & Sound Marine Diesel LLC, 86 East Main ST, Plainville CT. Can be seen anytime. Also we have the local hauler that moved boat here that can quote a price for hauling to your yard.

Finally we want to stress the following: This boat is in AS IS condition for sale. It is not in sailing or racing condition at this time. We have had a few issues with people looking at the boat and stating that we claimed the boat was in perfect race & water ready. These were from other ads we ran, NOT from anyone that replied from this website. I have described to the best I can. Please call me anytime with any questions you may have. 860-883-9742 Jim

From photos and Q&A looks like a project. Beat sails including an old one from Smiles.

I am updating the information on this boat for sale. Many have written me and I have tried to detail all I know about the boat. Please come and see the boat if you are interested. I have had a few people show up here expection this boat to be put into water and sailed away. It needs work to be complete and water and or race ready. I am not representing this boat to be either. It is a great boat that needs work. The owner is open to offers.

Open to offers? What was wrong with the winning bid $7,999.99 on eBay?

Bob, the winning bidder was from Canada, very nice, but cost was to hight to transport and do repairs. (the were hiring out all work to be done at a full Marina in Canada)
Yes, the owner is open to offers. Not sure if going to relist on EBAY. I have many very interested people coming here to see the boat this weekend. As you can see in the pictures, the owner had the bottom finished, all gouges, chips and fairing done back to original. All fitting are now smooth for racing back to its form. We only applied 1 thin coat of bottom paint to cover for now. New buyer can sand easily and install their own system.

If you or anyone else is interested in looking at this boat, please do reply and I will email you more pictures. The boat is scheduled to be surveyed by 2 different potential buyers this weekend.

Boat Boy (or anybody else who knows)

The ad on eBay and here does not list inventory nor show mast or rigging.

Two years ago in November I purchased a J/27 from Mystic Conneticut and transported to Canada. It had some issues (wet deck) and required work. http://users.eastlink.ca/~mhoyt
I did this because the broker detailed all of the known problems and I took them into consideration when making an offer.

What is inventory? Is it seriously just the two sails? That would deduct probably 10,000 from the boats value!

Is the rigging in sound condition?

Instruments - what are they and do they all work.

Repairs. Please list them

Cradle. There is no trailer. Is there a cradle? (another $1400 to have one built).

For others. Locally we have large one design J/29 fleet. Mostly fractional boats. Is the mast and all sail size the same? Will J/29 sails fit the J/30 with minor modifications?

Thanks

Mike

An update on this boat.

I contacted Jim who is selling this boat. He was as stated earlier in this thread very willing to share what information he has. he also sent me more pictures which included the mast (is nice to know there is one) and rigging. The mast at a glance looks OK. Jim will be forwarding Survey information shortly as well if the boat is still for sale.

On eBay the reserve was not met. There was also one bidder who had an automatic bid that was always $50 more than the highest. Seems kind of unfair in some ways - I am not a fan.

Closer looking at the pictures shows the level the interior water had risen to. the picture of the quarterberth and Nav station shows this - just below what appears to be a manual bilge pump. the water appears to have damaged the lower portion of the wood for the galley "walls" to some degree as well. if only two months then probably refinishing rather than replacement required.

There is no cradle, jackstands or trailer included with the boat.

The bottom appears to be in nice shape as does the keel.

re transport. Two years when I transported our J27 from Mystic, CT to Nova Scotia, CANADA the total cost including fuel, lodging, meals, marina travel lift charges and all border taxes was $2400. We brought down a 10x20 flatbed tandem axle trailer with cradle and drove it home ourselves. As Nova Scotia residents we were required to pay 13% of purchase price as taxes at the Canadian border. No duties as the boat is made in North America (thank you NAFTA). Estimates from a professional hauler were over $4000 not including taxes.

A quick chat with our local North Sails loft has confirmed that J29 dails can be easily modified to work with this boat. As we have a very competitive J29 OD fleet with mostly fractional J29 there are complete suits of sails < 5 years old available. Would get this boat started.

very interesting boat. If I were looking as hard as I was two years ago it would be at the top of my list. As it stands I am still somewhat interested ...

Mike

Boat was surveyed by potential buyer last week. Found 2 spots of moisture on top deck near hatch. Owner has had it professional repair done, it was about 12x 12 repair of core. Survey found very little moisture in hull. Anyone interested I will provide you direct contact number of the surveyor to speak with. I will be relisting again on Ebay next week with full report or if anyone here is interested to see the boat and make an offer, we are available to show boat anytime this week. I ask any more questions if you need or just email me direct.
