So,we got our hands on a setof templates, slapped them in place and... The leading edge is slightly fat (about an inch behind the leading edge, it seems about 1/8 inch fat), and significantly (like 3/4 of an inch) short) I gather this is fairly typical. How much work is it to build out the leading edge, and how doe one go about it? Or does this fall into the evil category, where if you have to ask, you should dig out the checkbook and get a pro to do it?

On my boat the original fairing job had a piece of wood (about 3/4" square) added down the leading edge, then glassed over. The lower part was damaged over the years, so when I re-did it I used a stip of fiberglass instead of wood (it won't absorb as much water). Not rocket science, but time consuming. Especially the detail fairing once the shape was close. A pro could probably do it faster, but I've heard its costly.

I'm starting to template my keel and I'm trying to take as many pictures as I can of the process.

Check out the site sailrattleandhum@blogspot.com.

WHERE CAN I OBTAIN A SET OF (KEEL) TEMPLATES?
I MANAGED TO "BUMP" OFF A TIP OF A LEDGE AT NO MORE THAN 1 KNOT
AND MANAGED TO BUST UP THE BOTTOM OF THE KEEL FAR WORSE THAN EXPECTED(IT WAS BRITTLE FAIRING COMPOUND FOR THE MOST PART),SO NOW THAT I HAVE TO REPAIR IT, MIGHT AS WELL MAKE SURE IT'S OPTIMUM. BOB CULLEN

Bob - send a message to Mark Rotsky - Nemesis. He's got a set that many of us have used.

Bob - Don't come Thursday, because the meeting is Friday! I spoke to Mark tonight and he'll contact you. I'll send an email with details.
