I have decided that my next boat will be a J30 or J35. I have been aboard a J35, but never a J30, so narrowing down my options is difficult. I would prefer a later J30, are there any owners in the Bellingham area who would be willing to show me their boat? I am also interested in hearing from any active J30 racers in this area. Are there any class racing activities or only PHRF racing?
Also there are several J35s for sale in Seattle, but no J30s. Does anyone know of a late J30 for sale in Washington?

I found my 30 in Maine. The prices were so bad in the PNW that it was practical to ship it all the way to Washington. You also need to shop for shipping. I saved $2100.00 by using a company that shipped for J/Boats and shared a trailer with a smaller boat going to Calif. The prices were about ob Blue Book with better sails and more extra options. The racing in Seattle has been borderline for a one design class, but you can take your share of awards by sailing well and being prepared.
Vampire is out of Point Roberts. Celebration is just down from you in Anacortes.
I have a J35 here in Point Roberts as well. Depends on your budget Skill and number of friends you have for crew.
The 35 is the fast machine but its very tweeky compared to the 30. The 30 is so easy to drive and get the most out of that I often beat the tweeky J29 because they dont know how to make the boat go. And the 35 needs 7-8 people minamum to race well. I have done well in a hundred mile race with two and often race with 5 but 6 good guys is peak.
Money. a new main for a J35 is 5000-5500 where I just paid 3500 for mine.
