SNE - Mark Rotsky
  • Regional regatta 21/22 July Newport YC looking to get 12 to 15 boats (8 registered so far)
  • NBYA is eliminating some weekend races in favor of some week night races
  • Good potential for continued growth in SNE district
Carolina - Randy Boyles
  • Jason Jarvis has moved to New England - boat is halfway up coast for delivery until later this season.
  • Most boats are PHRF
Gulf Coast - Ken Buhler
  • 2 New Boats, Black Magic & Bella Donna
  • Midwinters had big winds!
  • Next events at Southern YC & Ponchartrain YC
Eastern Great Lakes - Dan Mather
  • 3 major east Lake Ontario events hoping for 5 to 6 boats
  • Western end of lake not participating in OD
  • Trailers - 4 local (3 Oswego + 1 Henderson Harbor)
LIS - John McArthur
  • CPYC lost a few boats sold to other areas
  • Expect 8 boats to CPYC OD regatta
  • Some OD events spread across the sound
J/30 Dues status
  • 50 members so far this year
  • Need to get Gulf Coast & Chesapeake Dues as they collect for their fleets
Class Association finance status - Treasurer not present, to be provided later

2012 J/30 North American Planning Status - Dave Erwin
  • Sugar Bowl is title sponsor for the NAs
  • Trying to raise $25K to help defray logistics costs
  • 3 loaner boats available
  • Good entertainment lined up
  • 8 boats registered - trying to get 20 boats
  • Looking to defray costs of launching boats due to post Katrina insurance costs by using Southern YC Crane
  • Nick Hayes, author of Saving Sailing is Keynote speaker at NAs
Chief Measurer report - Charlie Stoddard
  • Headstay foil vs hanks - discussed with Rod Johnstone who feels hanks should be an allowed option. Two members who previously measured in at NAs with hanks (Rotsky & Mather) will be grandfathered - proposed wording to be posted on website change. Bob Rutsch discussed potential advantage of hanks over foils.
  • Proposed wording for use of new Rigrite jib sheave box to be posted on website
  • Jib horns - Proposed wording for use of one or two shackles to be posted on website
  • ISAF Advertising code to be voted on with proposed wording for two potential options (permitting or not permitting advertising)
  • Typos - consistent use of Leech and Leach to be posted as administrative update
  • Deck Layout standard - Rod Johnstone is looking to see if he can find a drawing. Rod discussed not gaming system for performance and that it would be easy to do sample of five boats. Rod said that the bow cowl vent being there or filled was not a performance issue at all.
  • Backstay - discussion was initiated by John McArthur. Rod indicated he does not like the flicker. Spectra vs wire, cascade vs pincher. Rod thinks that would be death of OD racing configuration and anyone who wants to go that route could keep the wire backstay to change out from PHRF to OD configuration.
New Business
  • Bill Kneller went over member benefits added such as adding Boat US reduced dues, V-Sport J/30 Logo discounts, J/30 Class membership cards emailed
  • Rod Johnstone discussed stability measurement issues for Chicago Mac with J/30s being excluded. Rod thought there was a compromise being reached so they could race. Possibly fill sump with lead shot for that race.

Scheduling of next meeting at New Orleans YC on Thursday 18 October 2012 (NA Host Club)
