Halyard Replacement - 04/04/11 10:12 PM

After Jalapeno's halyard break this past weekend, it reminded us to replace our main and spinnaker halyard. To query the fleet how often do you replace non-wire based halyards?

Dave - My jib and spinnaker halyards were always showing wear at the splice in anywhere from 3-5 years. My new spin halyard is not spliced. It's only 1 year old
I think my main halyard has been on the boat for 5-7 years with no sign of wear.

After having a series of issues with halyard breakage, I finally replaced all my halyards this year. I used high tech core, covered line with no taper/splice. I figure the added weight is worth it, as the covering will chafe through to warn me before I'm at any risk of breakage.

You mean Misthos got tired of running up the mast?
