Electrolysis on Prop (Significant)

Electrolysis on Prop (Significant) - 05/16/19 07:52 PM

Our J/30 is showing signs of significant electrolysis on the Prop.

Our diver suggests a potential bad ground to engine.

We do not have any power in harbor since Hurricane Katrina.

Any ideas or recommendations?

We have gone to using a magnesium sacrificial instead of zinc. We are in fresh water so not sure how long it would hold up in brackish water as magnesium is not recommended for salt water

Russ, This was the magic. Typically we are in brackish water as such zinc is best. Since the flooding has started the river water is now flowing through the lake causing a fresh water environment. I found this document to be very useful:

Glad it worked Dave. Check it often, mine barely makes it through a year in pure fresh water
