Traveler cam cleat replacement

Traveler cam cleat replacement - 08/17/22 04:21 PM

Hey all, I have a question about replacing the cam cleats for the traveler. My first mate and I noticed last week the teak blocks the cams are mounted to are really in bad shape and are about to rip out of the cockpit. We were in 8-12knts of wind then it suddenly built to 23knts, I went to let the traveler off and could see the screws barley hanging on. I saw a post here a while ago and it mentioned removing the old setup fill the holes and install swivel cams. has anyone used this, I can only imagine the reason for swivel is when I sit forward of the cockpit. I'm leaning more towards this idea. also if i do this will it affect the entrance for the NA next year in Bristol, we have been training all summer for that race.

You might want to include a photo of your current setup so we could give you the simplest fix, if that's what you're looking for.

I moved the turning blocks and cleats for my traveler so that I can use the full width of the traveler, added more purchase and used a single line so that we can trip the low side cleat after a tack.

I've improved small aspects of the system since first install (these photos), but am happy with it overall.
