Paint color

Paint color - 02/08/08 11:51 PM

I'm re-doing my boat (thanks to Rattle and Hum blog). I researched (googled) alot of pics of sailboats, I also checked everyones pic inthe registry database for j30's. I don't see anyone with dark color painted topsides.
Before you start typing a response, I realize dark paint will radiate more heat than light colored paint. But i'm referring to the vertical areas of the topsides, and smooth edge areas. I still plan to have a lighter nonskid every where one would sit, walk or stand, but I think it looks bad when the tops sides are white(ish), and the hull is a bold color. an example is Screamin O'. This boat is bad. I will put forth the effort to keep a jet black gloss paint. But, I'm planning on painting the topsides jet black too. Please hit me with your thoughts. Thanks, mango http://dantowey.com/Photos/Sailing/LCYC%202006/ScreaminO/DSC_0768.jpg http://dantowey.com/Photos/Sailing/LCYC%202006/ScreaminO/DSC_0977.jpg

Screamin O', by saying "bad", I meant "awesome". Don't want you to get the wrong idea. (nintendo generation)

No worries. I figured thats what you meant. Thanks.

Yes, the black is a little better than the red/orange/yellow it was. [Linked Image]

My Hull number 87 was originally green and yellow. Apparently the original owner ordered it that was from the factory as he was a Packers fan. I wish I could find some photos from the past.

Just my thought, I think most people add a flattening agent to the deck. So flat Black would be hard for me to paint. But that's just me. I love the shiney Black hull with a white topside however.
