Newport Facilities for SNE Regionals July 21-22 - 05/30/12 04:38 PM

SO OK ... just opened up is Newport's Ann St. Pier Maritime Center.

Newport Maritime Center

which seems to kick up what facilities we have during the SNE Regionals big time. It is accessible from the beach at Ann St pier.
[which some of you will more relate to right next to christies, which is now north 41.]

NYC is limited in some of its facilities so this opens up decent backup with plenty of room to spread out ... tables and chairs and potential meeting areas.

Also dinghy dock; I think the launches drop off there; showers that operate for 7 min for $1.75, but are big; and Wi-Fi with plenty of space to use.

Sara, formerly of Newport YC, is currently the person in charge so she knows the area well. [remember public facilites in Newport are dry] her number is 401 845 5870 ... tell her Vee Jay sent you and you'll get a free harbor map. Wait... she'll hand out that map to anyone.

[unfortunately the showers are not unisex ... so apparently there is no two for one going on, unless of course ... but let's not go there.]

SNE Regionals tune up afternoon Friday July 20 - 07/14/12 11:02 PM

For anyone looking to tune up in Narragansett Bay ...
Vee Jay will be doing a practice run, if the wind is normal,
between G11 and R12/R12A Friday afternoon ~2 to 4:30 before the regionals.

These are reasonable marks to round and convienent to the harbor.

on the Sailing Instruction Rendezvous Chart these marks are in Area B
and designated as R, S, and T.

additional NPT mooring available - 07/15/12 11:48 AM

The Vee Jay 1 mooring off Ann St Pier is still available ... for Fri/Sun nights. no charge for J30 group member on J30 ... racing or not.

I'm assuming that all racers now have mooring?

SNE Regionals Race Conditions -7 days - 07/15/12 09:34 PM

So OK ... we had a really, really busy race weekend this weekend in Narragansett Bay.

Sail Newport Bacardi Regatta

and I know I shouldn't talk about it, but Sail Newport had 235 OD boats participating in conditions that were ~15 and nice, both days.

if the J30s could just join in to be part of this yearly event it would be really great.

However ... Next weekend may be just as great ... most of the action was mid bay and truthfully i don't know if we could have had a J30 regatta there with so many boats in our way.

Looking forward to seeing you guys in NPT next weekend.

Hey Vic-

Is your mooring still available? If so, I'll definitely take it!

Re: SNE Regionals Race Conditions -7 days - 07/18/12 05:10 PM

Thanks Vic! I don't think I saved the coordinates. Are the moorings numbered in any logical way?

Re: SNE Regionals Race Conditions -7 days - 07/18/12 07:41 PM

41 29.046 // 71 19.307
#295 about west of East side of mooring field around Ann St Pier ...

there is no logical order for moorings ... except for some illogical exceptions. generally when it starts to look logical ... something is wrong.

it has a red pick up stick last I saw ... and has been sitting for a couple of weeks in water.
