We will include the measurement checklist and crew weigh-in form on this page for your information. These will be available during the registration & check-in process at Cedar Point Yacht Club. In order to prevent confusion, each boat must clearly indicate what days each crew member is sailing during the weigh-in, and all crew members sailing will be required to sign the waiver of liability on the registration form.

RULES The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
J/30 Class Rule 5.14.1 (Sailing Weight), requiring hull draft marks is waived; sailing weight may be determined by
measurement.
In addition to meeting the crew
weight limit, boats must sail with the same number of crew in each race. Only
crew substitutions declared by name and sailing date at registration will be
permitted, except in case of illness, accident or other special circumstance.
Each boat must be equipped with
a VHF radio capable or transmitting and receiving on channel 78.
ADVERTISING In accordance with ISAF
Regulation 20, no advertising is permitted.
ELIGIBILITY Open to all J/30s conforming to
J/30 Class Rules. Competitors must meet all ownership, class membership, and
measurement requirements; submit an official entry form and pay all event fees
before becoming official competitors.
LOANER BOATS A limited number of loaner boats will be available according to
district qualification procedures. A
loaner boat will automatically be offered to the 2008 J/30 North American
Champion, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.
ENTRIES Entry form and fee must be postmarked no later than
Thursday, September 17, 2009. Entry form
may be completed online at the regatta website or use the form attached below
submitted by regular mail.
Please
submit your entry form ASAP! You may pay the entry fee later if you wish.
Payment of entry fee of $500, payable to J/30 Class,
shall be sent (by Sept. 17) to: Halsey Bullen, 5 Nappa Drive,

Fees include: Boat entry and all social events for the skipper and six
crewmembers. Additional social packages may be purchased in advance or at
registration for $45. Entry includes
continental breakfast each race day, dinners for skipper and crew Friday and
Saturday, plus beer, snacks and soft beverages after racing, and t-shirts for

REGISTRATION Each boat owner or owner’s representative must
complete registration at CPYC between 0900 and 1700 on Thursday including: (i)
completion of entry form, waiver, and payment of all fees; (ii) completion of
inspection and delivery of Certificate of Measurement; and (iii) boat in the
water and rigged. Skipper and crew
weigh-in and signed liability waivers must be completed by 0900 on Friday.
INSTRUCTIONS Sailing Instructions will be available at
registration. An unofficial copy of the Sailing Instructions will also be posted at
the regatta website after September 18, 2009.

INSPECTION & Boats: Boats shall be presented for
measurement during the registration period at CPYC’s hoist area or
MEASUREMENT as arranged with the Measurement Committee.
Sails: Sail
certification will be conducted during measurement, or as arranged with the
Measurement Committee.
Crew: All crewmembers sailing in the regatta must sign the
Regatta Liability Waiver and weigh in prior to sailing.
COURSES The racing area will be located on Long Island Sound
southeast of
PENALTY SYSTEM When taking a penalty under rule 44.1, a boat may comply with either
rule 44.2 or 44.3.
SCORING The
Low Point Scoring System of Appendix A will apply, changed such that when fewer
than five races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of
her race scores. Seven races are
scheduled. Three races must be completed
to constitute a championship.
PRIZES Individual race and series prizes will be awarded
depending on the number of entries.
Overall prizes awarded by the J/30 Class Association will be half hull
models.
SUPPORT BOATS Support and spectator boats will be required to register and obtain
flags for display while near the race course.
HAUL-OUT Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta
except with and according to the terms of prior written
RESTRICTION permission of the protest committee.
MERCHANDISE Regatta merchandise may be ordered on the regatta
website.

WAIVER AND RELEASE - In consideration of the acceptance
of this entry, I hereby agree that the safety of my boat and her crew,
including the decision whether or not to wear life jackets, and the decision
whether or not to start or continue to race, is my responsibility and not that
of any person sponsoring or undertaking such race. I hereby forever and irrevocably waive,
release and discharge any and all claims, liability, loss, or damages,
including but not limited to claims for property damage, personal injury or
death, which I may have or in the future acquire against Cedar Point Yacht
Club, its officers, governors, members, employees, volunteers or agents,
arising out of or in any way connected with my participation in any race or
other activity sponsored or undertaken by any of them, even though such
liability may arise out of their negligence or carelessness. I understand that
serious accidents occasionally occur during sailboat racing, and that
participants in sailboat racing occasionally sustain mortal or serious personal
injuries and/or property damage as a consequence, and I knowingly assume all of
the risks of sailboat racing. I agree

1. RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules
as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.
1.2 Boats shall be equipped with a VHF radio capable
of transmitting and receiving on channel 78.
1.3 J/30 Class Rule 5.14.1 (Sailing Weight),
requiring hull draft marks is waived; sailing weight may be determined by
measurement.
1.4 In addition to meeting the crew weight
limit, boats must sail with the same number of crew in each race. Only crew substitutions declared at
registration by name and sailing date will be permitted. Exception may be made
in case of illness, accident or other special circumstance upon written
approval of the Protest Committee.
1.5 Boats shall not be hauled out during the
regatta except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of
the Protest Committee.
1.6 In accordance with ISAF Regulation 20, no
advertising is permitted.
2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
Notices to competitors will be posted
on the Official Notice Board located on the south wall of the CPYC clubhouse.
3. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
3.1 Race committee broadcasts and hails will
be made over VHF channel 78.
3.2 Race committee broadcasts concerning its intention,
the course to be sailed, starting times, course changes, recalls, etc. are a
courtesy only. Failure of the race
committee to make a broadcast, the timing of a broadcast, or the failure of a
boat to hear a broadcast will not be considered an improper action or omission
under rule 62.1(a).
3.3 Except in an emergency, a boat shall
neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications
not available to all boats. This
restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
4. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 Any changes to the sailing instructions
will be posted before 0900 on the day it will take effect, except that any
change to the schedule of races will be posted by 1900 on the day before it
will take effect.
4.2 Any posted changes will be announced by
radio at 0930, and repeated as necessary.
5. SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
5.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed from
the CPYC flagpole.
5.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore, ‘1
minute’ is replaced with ’60 minutes’.
6. SCHEDULE OF RACES
6.1 A harbor start courtesy signal will be
made at 0930, and the first race signal will be made at 1030 each race day.
6.2 No initial warning signal will be made
after 1500 on Sunday.
7. CLASS FLAG
The class flag will be a J/30 Class
flag.
8. RACING AREA
The racing area will be approximately
2 to 4 miles southeast of the mouth of the

9.1 The course for each race will be
windward-leeward, with a windward offset and a leeward gate, with a specified
number of legs.
9.2 All marks shall be left to port, except a
gate or a downwind finishing mark. If
one of the gate marks is missing, the remaining mark shall be left to port.
9.3 The number of legs to be sailed (not
counting the offset legs) and the approximate magnetic bearing and distance in
nautical miles to the first mark will be displayed from the race committee
signal boat prior to the warning signal for each race. The race committee will also broadcast the
course.

10. MARKS
10.1 The starting mark will be a green
tetrahedron.
10.2 Marks 1, 2S and 2P will be large orange
tetrahedrons.
10.3 Marks 1A and F will be smaller orange balls.
10.4 New marks, as provided in instruction 13,
will be large yellow inflatables.
10.5 An inflatable mark attached to the stern of the
race committee signal boat shall be considered a part of the boat, and not a
temporary attachment under the definition of mark.
11. THE START
11.1 The starting line will be between a staff
displaying an orange flag on the race committee signal boat at the starboard
end and the course side of the port-end starting mark.
11.2 A series of short sound signals will be made
shortly before the initial warning signal for each race.
11.3 A boat shall not start a race later than 10
minutes after its starting signal.
12. RECALLS
12.1 When an individual recall is signaled, the
race committee will attempt to hail the last three digits of sail numbers of
the boats that are OCS. See also
instruction 3.2.
12.2 When a starting penalty of rule 30 is in
effect, the race committee will attempt to hail the last three digits of sail
numbers of the boats that are OCS during the minute before the start.
12.3 Recall flags will be displayed from race
committee boats at both ends of the starting line.
13. CHANGE OF
THE NEXT LEG OF THE COURSE
13.1 To change the next leg of the course, the
race committee will lay a new mark (or gate, or move the finishing line) and
remove the original mark as soon as practicable.
13.2 When in a subsequent change a new mark is
replaced, it will be replaced by an original mark.
13.3 If the gate is moved, only one of the gate
marks will be a new mark.
14. THE FINISH
14.1 The finishing line will be between a staff
displaying an orange flag on a race committee boat and the course side of the
finishing mark.
14.2 For a course with an even number of legs
(downwind finish) the finishing mark shall be left to starboard.
14.3 If the race committee intends to start
another race on the same day, it will display flag Second Substitute (with no
sound) from the finish boat while boats are finishing.
15. TIME LIMIT
The time limit for the first boat to
sail the course and finish is two hours.
16. PENALTY SYSTEM
When taking a penalty under rule
44.1, a boat may comply with either rule 44.2 or 44.3.
17. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
17.1 Protest forms will be available at the race
office, located on the ground floor of the clubhouse. Protests shall be delivered there within 60
minutes after the race committee signal boat docks. The docking time will be posted on the notice
board.
17.2 Notices will be posted within 15 minutes
after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they
are parties or named as witnesses.
Protests will be heard in the race office as soon as practicable.
17.3 Breaches of instruction 19 will not be
grounds for protest by a boat. This
changes rule 60.1(a). Penalties for
these breaches may be less than disqualification if the protest committee so
decides.
18. SCORING
18.1 Three races are required to be completed to
constitute a championship series. Seven
races are scheduled.
18.2 When fewer than five races have been
completed, a boat’s score will be the total of her race scores.
19. SAFETY
19.1 Prior to the warning signal for the first
race of each day in which it intends to compete, each boat shall sail by the
race committee signal boat and check in by hailing its sail number until
acknowledged by the race committee.
19.2 A boat retiring from a race or leaving the
racing area early shall promptly notify the race committee either by hail, on
VHF, or by telephone to the CPYC Club Manager at (203) 226-7411.
19.3 When proceeding to or from the racing area,
boats should not pass between

course area will generally be centered about 0.5 mile south of marks H and P,
bearing approximately 120 from “G3” at the entrance to the
