we have been using 7+ oz for last 15 years or so ... great to have off shore ... but does weigh a bit more when hoisting.

It feels bullet proof. If you do a lot of 15-20+ wind it is best choice. full battens also add a bit of weight.

We used a full batten main at NA along with a few others ... I think it is a trade off ... built in shape vs. need to be extra careful on trimming. Most of my crew can't handle extra careful trimming so we like the full battens better and they DON'T flog when luffing at a start. Or when we sail up to mooring.

Today out in 25+ second reef only on 8 year old delivery North running 6-7 kts ... very comfortable cruising.

Am going to add second reef point to my new main. For some reason we seem to be seeing stronger winds.
