Thanks Vic for the idea of going to 5-1 purchase on the traveller.
We set the uppers and lowers at 41 (same) with the intent of trying to keep the mast fairly straight with no backstay tention.
Both backstay and traveller lines are run up to the driver postion.
We set the entry angle of the head sail with halyard tention.
I apparently need to pay more attention to the front of the boat to watch any change in forestay sag. Based on what you have input - we should be benifiting from reduced sag as we crank on backstay.
I fully agree with your input on main trim. We'll set the main backstay and traveller for the average wind conditions with the leach set with an eye on the upper batten telltail so they are just stalled. As wind increases or decreases we'll adjust traveller, backstay and mainsheet. In puffs we play back stay and traveller with the primary concern of balancing the helm will tolerate the leach opening during the puffs. Next season I'll have to see if I'm fast enough to do traveller/backstay and mainsheet and still drive straight - Tahnks for the tip!
