OK try this twisted line of logic.
if you were really a nutcase racer and just couldn't stand having a "heavy" snapshackle at the lifting end of the Main Halyard ... duh ... you would run the main halyard through the hole close to the mast and tie it through the back hole.
That also might let you get the sail up to the black band or at least above the black band if no one is looking.
That way you also won't have to use so much cunningham once the Dacron starts to stretch out of shape.
can I twist things or what?
